Dollar Coins Auctions
One popular collector’s item is the US dollar which when first minted had the same composition in size with the Spanish dollar. It was originally specified as a unit of weight by the Coinage Act of 1792 but became a currency after the American Revolutionary War.
The dollar was a Spanish coin invention only adopted by the United States. They were minted first as silver dollars from 1794 to 1935, then gold in the 1800s and with a copper and nickel mixture from 1971 to 1978.
Popular renderings of people in the dollar include Dwight D. Eisenhower in the silver dollar, Susan B. Anthony in 1979 and the popular Sacagawea dollar issued in 2000. In 2007, the US Mint declared a new one dollar coin featuring deceased presidents rotating in the order of their inaugurations starting with George Washington with the Statue of Liberty on the reverse.
A few years from now, these will become great collectible items.
