Yosemite National Park Quarter

Yosemite National Park Quarter is the third installment of the 56 America Beautiful Quarters Program which came after the Yellowstone National Park Quarters and was officially released on June 26, 2010. The national park is located in the east central of California and covers a total land area of 761,268 acres. The Yosemite National Park also consists of the Sierra Nevada’s chain of mountains. The rich history of the national park span over 10 million years ago where the granite and older rocks began to characterize the Yosemite National Park we came to know now.

In 1984, Yosemite National Park was designated as one of the World Heritage Site as the UNESCO finally recognized its granite cliffs, giant sequoia groves, breathtaking waterfalls amazing scenery and many more beautiful features of the national park. And in June 2010, the United States Mint began the first move to immortalize the Yosemite National Park in the form of the quarter coin and known as the Yosemite National Park Quarter. The America Beautiful Quarters Program has definitely strike a chord on the coin collectors’ note.

The Yosemite National Park Quarter design on the reverse side features the majestic and historic El Capitan, the infamous granite cliff, rising more than 3,000 feet high which conquers the scenic view of the national park. The cliff is the most popular rock climbing spot for outdoor enthusiasts as it has a diversity of climbing routes to the top. The reverse image was designed by Joseph Menna and sculpted by Phebe Hemphill. The reverse side also includes the engravings of inscriptions such as “Yosemite”, “California”, “2010” as the year of the mintage, and “E Pluribus Unum”.

The obverse side of the Yosemite National Park Quarter uses the same design as the previous America Beautiful Quarters Program coins which are the portrait of President George Washington designed by John Flanagan, inscription of “Quarter Dollar”, “In God We Trust”, “United States of America”, “P” for Philadelphia mintage origin and “Liberty”. The US Mint set the selling price of the 100-coin bags at $35.95 and each bag also carries the tag of mintage origin of either Philadelphia or Denver.

As for the 40-coin roll, the US Mint’s selling price is only at 432.95 for the two roll sets. Packed in the US Mint branded wrappers, the two roll sets coins also have the indicator of the mintage origin similar to the 100-coin bag. The Yosemite National Park Quarter will be available in bags and rolls for only a year’s duration after its release date. Nonetheless, the low mintages of the America Beautiful Quarters series seemed to attract many collectors who do not like to miss out on such grand coin collection that portrays the beautiful America to the world.
