Elizabeth Monroe First Spouse Gold Coin Auctions
The Elizabeth Monroe was the fifth release of First Spouse Gold Coin series honoring the President’s spouses and was the first release of the series for 2008. The coins were released on February 28, 2008.
The obverse of the coin portrays Elizabeth Monroe who served as First Lady from 1817 to 1825 during the Presidency of her husband James Monroe. The obverse was designed by Joel Iskowitz and sculpted by Don Everhart, bears several inscriptions including “Elizabeth Monroe”, “In God We Trust”, “Liberty”, the order of the Presidency “5th”, the dates of the Presidential term “1817-1825″, and the date and mintmark “2008 W”.
