Julia Gardiner Tyler First Spouse Gold Coins

Julia Gardiner Tyler was President John Tyler’s second wife, whom he married after the death of his first wife and former First Spouse, Letitia Tyler. The first spouse gold coins series marked the 11th instalment in the program and 2009’s third first spouse gold coins release. The Julia Tyler First Spouse Gold Coins series were released on August 6th, 2009, by the United States Mint.

Julia Gardiner Tyler was born on May 4th, 1820, and wed President John Tyler on June 26th, 1844. Although she was handed the First Spouse title for only eight months, she stamped her mark in history by requesting the “Hail to the Cheif” song to be played to announce the arrival of the President to official functions, instead of the song being played other events. Her early education during her childhood in life in society made her throw her support for the political agenda’s of her husband.

The obverse of Julia Gardiner Tyler First Spouse Gold Coins, which was released in August 2009, was designed by Joel Iskowitz and her portrait was sculpted by Don Everhart. The design also features the year of her term as First Spouse “1844-1845”, “Julia Tyler”, “In God We Trust”, “10th” Presidency order, “Liberty”, and the mint year “2009 W”.

Mean while, the reverse side of the coins have the inscriptions which include the image of Julia Tyler dancing with John Tyler during a White House Ball, that was sculpted by Don Everhart. The reverse also had the inscriptions featuring the “United States of America”, “E Pluribus Unum”, “$10” denomination, “1/2 oz” coin’s gold content, and “.9999 Fine Gold” describing the coin’s purity. The reverse side of the coin was designed by Joel Iskowitz.

The Julia Gardiner Tyler First Spouse Gold Coins were made available for public in both proof and uncirculated versions. The two sets had 40,000 gold coins minted for sale and were initially priced at $629.00 for proof and $616.00 for uncirculated version and were adjusted a few times due to the changing of gold prices. The Julia Tyler Gardiner first spouse gold coins series sales ended on June 3rd, 2010, after going on sale for ten months.
